Whether you’re planning a quiet ceremony on the cliffs or a slow morning by the lake, Door County gives you space to make it your own.

As a Wisconsin-native elopement photographer, I’ll help you plan every step – from scouting the right spot to building a timeline that feels true to you.

Why Door County is a Favorite for Elopements

A variety of landscapes

Door County has range – from dramatic limestone cliffs and forest trails to tucked-away coves and soft sandy beaches. You can explore all day or settle into one quiet spot. It’s the kind of place that makes planning your elopement easy with the amount of options to choose from.

Secluded, intimate spots

If a big wedding never felt like your thing, Door County gives you room to focus on what really matters. There are so many off-the-beaten-path places that let you escape the crowds and have a ceremony that’s truly personal.

Built-in adventure

This area is made for couples who love being outside. From kayaking and hiking to stargazing after the sun sets, you can build a day that reflects what you love doing together.

Best Places for a Door County Elopement

Cave Point County Park
One of my personal favorites. Towering cliffs, crystal-clear water, and hidden coves make this spot unforgettable. You can exchange vows with the waves crashing below, then explore the shoreline by kayak or relax with a lakeside picnic.

Whitefish Dunes State Park
Just next door to Cave Point, this park offers quieter trails and long stretches of beach. It’s great for couples who want to keep things simple, with a peaceful forest-to-shoreline vibe.

Peninsula State Park
A classic Wisconsin destination with big views and quiet corners. You’ll find wooded trails, open overlooks, and lakeside spots that are perfect for a quiet ceremony. It’s the perfect spot to find the perfect mix of advenutre and a laid back vibe.

Newport State Park
For a more remote feel, head to Newport. As Wisconsin’s only wilderness-designated park and a certified Dark Sky Park, it’s ideal if you’re planning a stargazing moment or want to end your day under the Milky Way.

Where to Stay in Door County

East Shorewood Cottages – Rustic and tucked away, these cottages are a peaceful spot to unwind after a full day outdoors. Private, cozy, and right near the water.

Thorp House Inn & Cottages – A historic inn in Fish Creek that’s close to Peninsula State Park. The setting is quiet and charming with plenty of local character.

Newport Resort – A more modern home base in Egg Harbor. It’s comfortable, centrally located, and close to the shoreline and hiking trails.

Places to Eat and Celebrate

Alexander’s of Door County – A go-to for a celebratory dinner in Fish Creek. The setting is cozy but upscale, and yes—you should definitely try the Brandy Alexander.

Wild Tomato – Casual, local, and delicious. Their wood-fired pizzas and laid-back vibe make it a great stop post-ceremony.

Harbor Fish Market & Grille – Overlooking the lake in Baileys Harbor, this spot is known for its seafood and relaxed atmosphere. Great for brunch, lunch, or dinner with a view.

Tips for Planning Your Door County Elopement

Pick your season intentionally
Fall brings the best colors. Summer offers long, warm days and lots of greenery. Spring has quiet trails and wildflowers. Even winter has its own beauty – think snow-dusted trees and evenings by the fire.

Consider a weekday
Door County can be busy on weekends, especially during peak seasons. A weekday elopement gives you more privacy and flexibility with locations.

Dress for adventure
Many of the best spots involve a bit of walking or hiking. Bring shoes and layers that keep you comfortable, and you can always change into your ceremony clothes once we arrive.

Make it your own
Hike. Paddle. Picnic. Stargaze. Your elopement can reflect the way you already spend time together – just with a few extra beautiful moments built in.

A Door County elopement gives you the freedom to plan a day that feels personal, relaxed, and meaningful. Whether you’re standing on a bluff, walking a quiet trail, or sitting by a campfire under the stars—it’s the kind of place that lets your love take center stage.
